Creativity can be dangerous for those of us with brain injuries or a mental illness. To be creative means you must be completely open. You must let your guard down. You must step outside your safe zone.
Yet, despite the danger we take the risk. Despite the warnings that go off in our head–Danger Will Robinson, Danger.
Despite the danger we take the risk. We know that creativity is part of our recovery.
We know that creativity is part of our soul.
I write poems because I want (need) to let the feelings, emotions and experiences that are inside of me out. I also hope that at least some who read the poems will see themselves or have similar shared experiences. Maybe some will be able to draw some hope from them.
